World Business Briefing | Europe: Britain: Two Resign at Airline Amid Antitrust Inquiry
British Airways said a commercial director, Martin George, had resigned amid an antitrust investigation of the airline s fuel surcharge strategy. Mr. George has been on leave since June, British Airways said in a statement on the Regulatory News Service, a communications channel of the London Stock Exchange. Iain Burns, the airline s head of communications, also resigned. Within my department, there may have been inappropriate conversations in violation of company policy in relation to long-haul fuel surcharges, Mr. George said in the statement. Although the board of B.A. have not found that I have behaved in a dishonest way, I fully recognize my responsibilities. British Airways is under investigation by the Office of Fair Trading in Britain and the Department of Justice in the United States over the way the airline priced long-haul passenger fuel surcharges.
